The Prairie Ridge Ecostation is an outreach of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.  It's located in Raleigh off of Reedy Creek Road and can be accessed along the greenway that leads west across Blue Ridge Road from the North Carolina Museum of Art. They even have bike racks. There are a few short trails through the prairies, a eco-learning center designed by Raleigh Architect Frank Harmon, bird houses, a small pond with a bird blind for viewing, among other natural features. It is interesting to observe how the natural habitat can exist on what is pretty much an island surrounded by suburban development.
