Holy Trinity Lutheran Church from corner of Brooks and Clark

Brick pattern and stainless glass panels

One of my favorite buildings in Raleigh is the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on the corner of Brooks and Clark Avenue. It's the rich textures that draw me in. The sanctuary rests on concrete piers above a black slate panelized base. The brick pattern and stained glass panels enliven the simple exterior volume, creating interesting shadow patterns and visual texture that leads you to believe something special is going on inside. The church was designed by architects Horace Taylor and Stan Fishel, NCSU design school graduates, and completed in 1968.
