While down at the coast recently we visited part of the Croatan National Forest which is right at the Bogue Sound, and straddled by the mouths of the Neuse  and White Oak rivers. The area we visited was the Cedar Point Recreation Area and we walked the short "Tideland trail" which meandered along and crossed some of the low lying areas right at the mouth of the White Oak river. It was nice to visit before mosquito season and there are many other recreational areas throughout the park, including a 20 mile foot trail. The park is rich with many plant species, including the venus flytrap, which only grows naturally in bogs and wet savannahs, specifically in coastal North and South Carolina around Wilmington.
