Sunscreen on Highwoods Boulevard
Last year I designed a renovation to an office building on Highwoods Boulevard for a client interested in energy efficiency and providing a great work environment for his employees. The building already had great natural light, almost too much. The entire south side was glazed and the heat gain and glare were so extreme, especially in some offices during the winter, that the spaces could not be used.I did sun angle 3-D modeling and designed a sunscreen system that maintained all the views out of the windows, while blocking the morning and afternoon sun. A few weeks ago the exterior screen installation was completed. The renovations to the building also included two interior sunscreens in the lobby, an elevator addition, all new interior office layout, new bathrooms, a lactation room, a break room, and exterior planters.Alphin Design-Build was the general contractor and Jim Dautremont and his team were the subcontractors who did a great job installing the sunscreen.
